entry #6 sports card market
What’s the first thing that comes to mind when someone says
they are investing in something? Some might say stocks, crypto currency, real
estate, or even maybe themselves; not many people think of sports cards, but
people are starting to shift their attention to the rise and popularity of the
sports card market and the potential upside it offers.
Sports cards have been produced since the mid 1880’s and continued
to grow in popularity through the years and peaked in the mid-1990’s when it
started to go downhill a little after they supply was too high for the demand.
Recently in 2020 the hobby started to gain more traction and is still seeing
growth. There are many factors that lead up to the resurgence of the sports
card market including Covid-19 with everyone locked in their homes during the
quarantine, the Last Dance documentary, and the kid’s that previously collected
cards in the 80’s and 90’s now have their own kids and most importantly more
income to spend on this previous hobby of theirs. The main people coming into
this hobby are these nostalgic collectors from the 80’s and 90’s as well as
investors from wall street that look at this market like the stock market and
see the potential upside and value in these cards. The prices of these cards
people are investing can range anywhere from a few dollars up thousands of
dollars for one card. There are several factors which can add value to a card including
the players performance, the brand of the card, but most importantly the
condition of the card. I personally have invested in this market and have had several
successful investments so far; I do see a future in this hobby and the potential
growth, but it will be interesting to see what happens to the market when we
finally get out of this pandemic and see if it will stay as strong as it is
now.
I might sound really clueless right now but I had no idea these type of cards existed. I've never seen them in real life before but they seem really cool. Awesome blog by the way.
ReplyDeleteHey, Kyle. These four new entries are looking pretty good. You have some good visual appeal with your text formatting and layout, and you incorporate some visuals. Keep working at that visual engagement for your reader. You present some interesting topics for discussion, and you are working your development of those topics. Keep digging deeper into social and cultural connections that help your readers relate and connect more. Good job.
